Black & Grey.

Smooth gradients, fine shading, and timeless contrast.

Black & grey is the foundation of modern realism — built on patient layering and a deep understanding of how ink reads on skin over decades, not seasons. It’s our most-requested approach for portraits, animals, religious imagery, and mood-driven pieces where depth matters more than colour.

On the craft

A great black & grey piece is mostly about restraint. We dilute black into grey washes, build value slowly, and let healed skin do the rest of the work. The result is a tattoo that looks like a finished drawing — not a sticker.

On longevity

Because the tonal range is built from one pigment, black & grey ages more predictably than colour. Sharp linework holds. Mid-tones soften beautifully. A piece tattooed today will still read clearly in twenty years.

On planning

Reference matters. Bring the photograph, the painting, the screenshot — whatever you’re drawn to. We’ll talk about placement, scale, and how much detail your skin will actually hold long-term.

“If it doesn’t read across the room, it isn’t finished.”
